What Makes It Different

One Extra Foot That Changes Everything

The "high cube" designation means exactly one thing: the container is one foot taller than a standard ISO shipping container, also known as a conex box. That takes the exterior from 8 ft 6 in to 9 ft 6 in, and the usable interior ceiling from 7 ft 10 in to 8 ft 10 in. Available in used WWT and one-trip grades. See our condition guide for the differences.

One foot sounds modest. In practice it is transformative. In a standard container, someone over 6 feet tall is ducking slightly. In a high cube, the same person walks through freely with clearance to spare. Overhead storage is easier to reach, lighting can be mounted higher, and if you are building out an office or a living space, the ceiling height feels comfortable rather than cramped.

For container conversions of any kind, cabins, job site offices, workshops, the high cube is almost always the right starting point. The premium over a standard 40ft is modest next to the improvement in usability.

Pallet racking for freight yards and supplier lots at the crossing of I-40 and I-85 in the Triad, where yard storage is ordinary rather than exceptional.

Furniture plants, upholstery shops and finishing houses around Hickory, Lenoir, Thomasville and Lexington storing frames, foam and finished goods upright.

Poultry and hog operations through Wilkes, Union, Sampson and Duplin counties keeping feed, bedding and equipment dry between houses.

Data center trade contractors at Maiden, Lenoir and Forest City who stage material on site for long stretches.

FAQ

High Cube Container Questions

The footprint is identical. A high cube is one foot taller on the outside, 9 ft 6 in against 8 ft 6 in, which becomes about 8 ft 10 in of interior height against 7 ft 10 in. That extra foot is what makes pallet racking, tall equipment and any insulated build work, because insulation and a finished floor eat headroom you do not get back.
It changes the overhead, not the ground. The run is still about 100 feet of straight, level approach, but the truck carries the box a foot higher, so at least 14 feet of clear air is the floor and more is better where the ground slopes. Low limbs and service drops are the usual problem, and both are cheaper to find on a photograph than on delivery day.
Wind and Water Tight units start at $2,979 delivered in Raleigh for a standard 40ft, and a high cube sits slightly above that. Delivery is included in the quoted number. Prices are set by our supply partner and change without notice, so the written quote is the one that applies to your order. Prices captured 2026-08-06.
Warranty runs by grade: one-trip units carry a 10 year structural and no-leak warranty, cargo worthy and wind and water tight units carry 5 years, and economy units carry a 1 year, no roof leak only warranty.
